About UsThe Western Province Archery Association (WPAA) was constituted in the 1950’s and is the governing body of target archery in the province. The WPAA is affiliated to the national federation, SANAA. The WPAA hosts a number of tournaments during the year, including those recognized by the international federation. It has hosted the national championships a number of times over the past few decades, and has produced many national and international champions. Members of affiliated clubs are automatically members of the association and responsible for tournaments. Provincial ColoursThe Association is also responsible for the awarding of Provincial Colours for the sport. For some time there was concern in terms of qualifying scores for WP not keeping pace with developments throughout SA, keeping in mind that scores in the last few year have vastly improved and become more competitive as a whole, and there are no qualifying scores for new categories and the new 720 round.
In a decision taken on 2 June 2010, the executive committee decided that the qualification scores for WP colour be amened to the following criteria (download size 73kb). The new scores must be shot at any four SANAA sanctioned or FITA Star tournaments in any 12 month period prodivded that the criteria are met and can be awarded at any time during that year that the criteria is met. Please download the Provincial Colours Application document for submission here.
Archers who qualify are invited to submit their application and score-sheets in accordance with SANAA regulations to the Secretary for consideration. The awarding of colours does not imply automatic inclusion in the Provincial Team. Any questions or queries in terms of the new criteria can also be addressed to the Secretary.
